School Bus Crash In Martin County Left 4 Kids And Two Other People Critical

Six people, four of them small children, were rushed to the hospital in Martin County after a Lexus collided with a school bus, causing the bus to flip on top of another car in Martin County, officials and witnesses said.

The bus was heading down SW Citrus Blvd near SW 45th Street in Palm City when the black Lexus blew a stop sign and hit it, a witness said. The bus ended up landing on top of an empty black Honda.

“It stood on two wheels then flipped,” said a 51-year-old man, who works at the nearby Auto Sales and Repair shop. “I ran over with my friend who disconnected the battery because gas was leaking. We were afraid the bus would explode.”

The 51-year-old worker and his 34-year-old co-worker helped to rescue the four traumatized kids inside the bus.

“Two of the kids were crying,” the worker said. “I was banging on the door so they can open it but they were scared and didn’t. I flipped the handle, jumped in and took them out through the roof.”

The four children escaped unscathed but were taken to Delray Medical Center for observation, cops said. The bus driver and matron were transported to the same hospital for minor neck and back injuries.

The driver of the Lexus remained on scene. Witnesses said she didn’t have a license and her son was in the back seat.

She had not been arrested yet, cops said.
