The Martin County Sheriff’s Office received numerous 911 calls in reference to a three-vehicle accident with multiple injuries, including children, near the intersection of U.S. 50 East and Belgrade Road, which is just west of the Martin County Fairgrounds.
During an investigation, it was determined that a 43-year-old man of Riviera Beach was westbound on U.S. 50 in his white 2010 Chevy van when he proceeded off the immediate roadway striking the north side guardrail, then over-corrected and proceeded into the eastbound lane of traffic on U.S. 50.
Upon proceeding into the eastbound lane, he struck the driver’s side of a red Toyota Tacoma being driven by a 25-year-old man of Port Salerno. After being struck, the Toyota Tacoma vehicle spun completely around within the eastbound lane and came to rest facing west within the eastbound lane of the highway.
After striking the Toyota Tacoma vehicle, the white van driver proceeded westbound in the eastbound lane where it struck a blue 2002 Dodge Ram head-on.
The drivers of the white van and the driver of the Toyota Tacoma were the only occupants of their vehicles but the other driver was transporting his wife and two minor children.
All persons involved in the collision were transported to Davies Community Hospital by the Martin County Ambulance Service.
No deaths have reported yet according to FHP.
