The 19-year-old driver, who fled from authorities in Boca Raton and seriously injured six others along the way, now faces an adult felony charge, records show.
The driver of Fort Lauderdale was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on a charge of fleeing and eluding that caused serious injuries. He was released under supervision after posting a $1,000 surety bond.
Authorities say the 19-year-old was driving a black Acura MDX when it crashed shortly on West Palmetto Park Road east of Interstate 95. Six other teens, ranging in age from 15 to 17, were also in the SUV, police records show. One fractured his skull. Another broke her spine.
Their car crashed into two others and injured two men, including a 52-year-old father of two who was only a few minutes from home.
The high-speed chase followed reports of a home burglary and an armed robbery all within a few-mile area in Boca Raton.
Authorities said they found fingerprints on a pencil holder in the home. The oldest of the six teenagers later found in the Acura SUV, did not have permission to be in the house, the home owner told the police.
After some time, that SUV reportedly fled from an armed robbery in a parking lot on the 900 block of North Federal Highway, south of Glades Road. An officer quickly spotted the SUV heading west on Yamato Road.
