An unhinged and possibly intoxicated driver injured five people when he slammed his truck into several cars and then tried to steal a fire truck, according to officials.
Police said, the man was driving a large Enterprise rental truck north on 101th Street when he began his path of destruction, crashing into a total of three vehicles near 101th Street.
The truck driver ditched his banged-up ride a little north of 101th Street and started yelling that someone was after him, according to a 23-year-old witness, who saw the chaos unfold as he was catching the Jets game at a bar across the street.
Moments later, a man in a black Mercedes Benz pulled up, saying the truck driver had hit his car and several other cars.
The witness grabbed the manic truck driver to keep him from fleeing and to stop him from brawling with the Mercedes owner in the middle of the street, he said.
The truck driver tried to climb into a fire truck and got into an argument with the firefighter in the driver’s seat, according to Indian River County fire department officials.
All five people went to the hospital including the truck driver and the firefighter, fire officials said. Five had minor injuries and three were listed as serious. None were pedestrians, police said.
Police said, the incident was not terror-related and they believe the truck driver was on drugs though they would not clarify.
