Michael Ridge And His Two Children Were Injured While Walking To School
A Wellington man, walking his children to school, was critically injured when a car was rear-ended and pushed into him.
Michael Ridge, 52, was critically injured at the scene of the crash, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said. Michael was walking the children on the sidewalk of Big Blue Trace not far from Riviera Beach Elementary School just before the crash occurred, the Sheriff’s Office reported in a statement.
The agency said, a 42-year-old man of Boynton Beach was driving a 2014 SUV going south on Big Blue Trace “at a high rate of speed” and “failed to reduce his speed or take evasive action to avoid a collision” with a 2015 Jeep Wrangler driven by a 22-year-old man.
Alcohol or drugs appeared to be a factor in the driver’s driving, the sheriff’s office report said.
The report said, the front of the SUV “violently impacted” the back of the Jeep, causing both vehicles to rotate and go off the road. The SUV came to rest on the shoulder.
The Jeep kept going over the shoulder and onto the sidewalk where it hit Michael and his children. Michael and his two kids were flung into the air and Michael was listed in critical condition by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue personnel, the sheriff’s report said.
Both kids also were also critically injured, sheriff’s spokeswoman said.
