Florida Highway Patrol troopers said, a drowsy driver caused a crash at a toll plaza in Palm Beach. Tollbooth cameras caught the crash as it happened on Interstate 95 in Palm Beach County.
The video showed a Chevrolet Silverado truck being pushed forward after a GMC Envoy slammed into the back of the truck.
The impact of the crash pushed the truck vertical and the Envoy ended up pinned underneath the truck. The truck slammed into a camera, a light display and two control panels at the toll booth plaza, according to an FHP report.
The 32-year-old victim driving the truck, Victor Lanez, remains at Delray Beach Regional Medical Center.
Lanez suffered a broken leg. His sister said he had a seizure that placed him in intensive care. The victim’s sister, said her brother was taken out of ICU, but she doesn’t know when he’ll return home.
Troopers gave the driver of the GMC Envoy a citation for careless driving.
FHP troopers said, 4,329 crashes happened statewide as a result of drowsy driving.
According to data released by FHP, Palm Beach County where the toll booth crash occurred saw 28 crashes due to drowsy driving.
