29-Year-Old Man Arrested For Vehicle Crash That Left Two Injured
An unlicensed driver caused a fatal four-car crash in Martin County and was arrested after ditching his wheels and running away, police and the Florida Highway Patrol said.
A 29-year-old was driving a SUV in the left lane of Jensen Beach Avenue near East 233rd Street, when he crossed over the double-yellow lines into oncoming traffic and sideswiped a 2014 Honda SUV being driven by a 72-year-old woman, according to FHP authorities.
The 29-year-old then accelerated south in the northbound lane where he crashed head on with a 1995 Toyota sedan driven by a 42-year-old Delray Beach resident, police officials said.
The Toyota then veered into the path of a fourth vehicle, a 2013 Honda SUV driven by a 39-year-old woman.
The 29-year-old allegedly abandoned his car and fled, but returned shortly thereafter and was arrested, police said.
He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and possession of a controlled substance. He was allegedly in possession of marijuana and unidentified pills. The 29-year-old also received a violation for driving with a revoked license, police said.
The 72-year-old woman and the 42-year-old woman were rushed to Delray Medical Center. None of the other victims had severe injuries.
