A driver who struck three Girl Scouts and a father along a Wellington Highway was huffing chemicals prior to the crash, police said.
The 43-year-old turned himself in to the police after the crash in Boca Raton that sent three girls to the hospital, the Post reports.
Police identified the victims as two 14-year-old girls, an 11-year old, and her 32-year-old father. They were picking up trash along the highway when they were cut down.
The 43-year-old man’s truck was found abandoned in Palm Beach Gardens after an officer tracked leaking fluid nearly two miles from the crash scene. A passenger in the 43-year-old man’s truck also surrendered to police, but that suspect had not been identified, the newspaper reported.
The man was scheduled to appear in court. He’s expected to face 13 possible charges, sheriff officials told the post.
Police and witnesses said, the man was speeding on a highway when his truck veered into a shallow ditch where the girls were picking up trash.
