A 5-year-old girl, her mother and grandparents were injured in Martin County when a tractor trailer slammed into their car, FHP authorities said.
The 55-year-old grandmother, who was driving north on Jensen Beach slowed down to avoid a raised metal sewer cap on the middle of the roadway.
The tractor trailer rear-ended the silver Chevy Malibu and pushed it a metal pole, critically injuring everyone in the vehicle.
Florida Highway Patrol officials pulled out the grandmother and the little girl’s mother, 31, who was sitting in the back seat with her child. The grandfather, 46, was traveling in the passenger’s seat.
The girl’s mom was screaming andcalling for her baby who was trapped, an eyewitness said.
All four family members were rushed to Martin County Hospital and have all been reported in critical condition.
None of the adults were able to walk at the crash scene. Police said, their injuries were all very severe and they were all in critical condition.
The truck driver remained on the scene as Florida Highway Patrol investigated the crash.
No arrests were made, police said.
