Authorities say a 35-year-old was intoxicated when he crashed his white 2006 Mercedes-Benz C280 into a woman crossing to the south side of the bridge on East Ocean Avenue.

The women, 31-year-old Mary George of Boca Raton, was wearing an orange reflective vest, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. Mary died at the scene.

The 35-year-old was ordered to be held in the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond. He cannot drive or drink alcohol as the case moves through the court system.

A man who witnessed the wreck told FHP investigators that he saw the 35-year-old step out of his car and say, “she just walked out in front of me.”

Records indicate that the 35-year-old was driving at least 60 mph, twice the posted speed limit on the bridge.

A few hours after the wreck, the 35-year old driver’s blood-alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit, records show.
