A Boynton Beach truck driver was sentenced to five months in jail for a car accident that critically injured a Wellington woman.
The 49-year-old pleaded guilty to dangerously operating a vehicle that ended up leaving an 83-year-old Wellington woman in critical condition, according to FHP.
The court heard that the 49-year-old had driven his truck into the back of five stationary vehicles in Boynton Beach.
The third car was occupied by an 82-year-old woman. She was driving slowing on Boynton Beach Road when the 49-year-old had hit her, pushing her into the truck in front her that left her in a critical condition.
A prosecutor told the court the 49-year-old had a straight 2km stretch of road and had a “prolonged period of inattention” before the crash.
A defense attorney said, it was clearly not a case of momentary inattention.
The judge sentenced the 49-year-old to five months in jail.
The crash according to the Florida Highway patrol Department is still under investigation.
