Family Of Four Hospitalized After Wrong Way Crash On Interstate 95
A suspected drunk driver was heading the wrong way on Interstate 95 in Palm Beach County when he struck a vehicle carrying four family members from Florida, injuring all four people, police authorities said.
The southbound pickup truck struck the family’s sport utility vehicle in Wellington. The SUV caught fire. All four occupants of the vehicle were lucky to still be alive, the Palm Beach Sheriff Office said in a statement.
The family from Indian River County was returning from a vacation in Florida, the Palm Beach Sheriff Office said.
A witness told The Post the pickup truck was coming toward him prior to the fiery crash.
“I thought I was seeing something, honestly,” the witness said. “He was in the center lane. I was in the center lane. I had to merge out of the way at the last second to get to the right lane. I mean, he was flying. Absolutely flying.”
The driver of the white pickup was identified as a 34-year-old man of Palm Beach Gardens. The FHP statement says authorities believe the truck driver was driving under the influence and that toxicology tests were pending.
The interstate was shut down for several hours. The accident remains under investigation.
Accident attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded to this unfortunate crash. “This is a serious accident resulting in injuries.
