The crash happened south of the intersection of Atlantic and Congress avenues.
The bicyclist was taken as a trauma patient to Delray Medical Center and remained in the intensive-care unit according to paramedics and police officials.
Police said that no children were on the southbound Palm Beach County School District bus at the time of the crash.
Authorities encouraged drivers to avoid the area, as the southbound lanes of Congress Avenue were closed while police investigated.
