56-Year-Old Woman Critical After Colliding With Bus In Palm Beach County
A Honda Accord driven by a 56-year-old collided with a bus that had been forced onto the wrong side of the road. It happened on Boynton Beach in Palm Beach County just blocks from the couple’s home.
The couple’s 13-year-old was in the car with her mom on her way to school. Amazingly, she emerged relatively unscathed. The 56-year-old, who was cut out of the wreckage by firefighters, suffered multiple fractures as well as a shattered pelvis and damage to her arteries resulting in near-fatal blood loss.
It was later discovered she had broken her neck in a so-called hangman’s fracture injuries.
The 56-year-old initially suffered from memory loss and delusions. She was confined to the ICU for three weeks, where she had a tracheotomy and a halo apparatus screwed into her head for support. Her husband calls it a personal portable prison cell.
For her 62-year-old husband, the most testing moments were dealing with his feelings of being powerless and unable to directly improve her condition.
