The department had tweeted that one of its officers was involved in a four-car crash that resulted in the closure of Wellington between West 54th Street and Davie Road.

Four people, including the officer, were hurt in the crash that happened according to a Florida Highway Patrol Sergeant. They were hospitalized but the extent of their injuries is not known.

Two cars were eastbound on Wellington while two cars, including the police cruiser, were headed westbound. The officer was on a regular patrol and not in pursuit, the Florida Highway Patrol officials said.

The driver in the eastbound curb lane changed lanes. The car pushed the other eastbound car over the double yellow line into a car going in the opposite direction. That car, in turn, struck the police cruiser and pushed it into a pole, police said.

Palm Beach County police tweeted just after that Wellington road was reopened.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation as police and Florida Highway Patrol officials are trying to find out what triggered the crash, the Post reported.
