Police Try To Identify Pedestrian Killed In Fort Lauderdale Crash

Authorities have been unable to identify a man who was hit and killed on State Road 7.

The fatal crash happened in the 1800 block of South State Road 7, south of Davie Boulevard, in Fort Lauderdale, authorities said.

The man was standing on the center median before he was hit, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

A witness saw the man run into the northbound lanes of traffic and nearly get hit by a vehicle in the center lane, said a spokeswoman for the sheriff.

When the pedestrian stepped into the right lane, he was run over by a 2016 Subaru, she said.

The 18-year-old driver of the Subaru remained on scene and cooperated with detectives, the Florida Highway Patrol Department and the Sheriff’s Office said.

Paramedics took the injured pedestrian to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale where he was pronounced dead, the Florida Highway Patrol Spokeswoman said.

“Traffic homicide detectives have not been able to positively identify the pedestrian,” she said.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact the Florida Highway Patrol Department.
