Woman And Carjacking Suspect In Critical Condition After Car Crash With Police
A man is in custody after he allegedly went on a crime spree in Fort Pierce, Florida Highway Patrol said.
A 28-year-old man remains in the hospital in critical condition after police say he pointed a gun at an officer, carjacked a woman and then crashed into a patrol car.
Police were notified of a theft he was involved in at the 2500 block of South US Highway 1.
Shortly after the theft, the woman was waiting in the drive-thru line at Wendy’s when an officer witnessed the 28-year-old carjacking the woman at gunpoint.
The officer fired his weapon but missed. The woman jumped out of the vehicle.
Police and the Florida Highway Patrol say the 28-year-old man eventually spun out and then crashed into a patrol car.
A 33-year-old who witnessed the crash says he’s just happy police arrested the 28-year-old man quickly. “He wasn’t even concerned with anybody around him our anything. He could have hit a biker or a stroller or something,” said Martinez.
The officer wasn’t hurt and the woman was treated at the hospital and released.
Charges are pending.
