17-Year-Old Driver And Four Others Critical After Crash In St. Lucie County
A teen swerved into oncoming traffic and crashed his Toyota Corolla in St. Lucie County, critically injuring his friend who was sitting in the passenger seat, police said.
The 17-year-old driver was on River Park and Fort Pierce Drive in St. Lucie County when the Nissan 350Z crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a Kia Spectra with six people inside, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.
The driver of that vehicle, a 31-year-old woman, was with a 26-year-old man and two teens and they all suffered minor injuries, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.
The passenger of the Nissan, a 35-year-old was rushed to a hospital in St. Lucie County, authorities said.
The driver, whose identity has not been released, was listed in stable condition at the same hospital.
Police believe speed was a factor, but it wasn’t immediately clear how fast he was going, sources said. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
The accident is still under investigation. The driver of the Nissan has not been charged with a crime and has been issued no violations at this time, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.
