Antoinette Johnson, 26, and her infant child, Alina Johnson, both of Pahokee, were in a 2008 Chevrolet Impala that collided with a 2019 Mack Granite dump truck near the intersection of Hatton Highway and State Road 80, east of Belle Glade.
Authorities say the dump truck, driven by a 51-year-old man of Loxahatchee, turned left from State Road 80 to head west on Hatton Highway. The back of Johnson’s car hit the dump truck and the sedan quickly caught fire, according to state records.
The car “spun out of control,” rotating clockwise and coming to a stop in the intersection. The woman and baby were dead when rescue crews arrived.
The Johnsons and 51-year-old man were all wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Feneck was not injured. The crash report made no reference to the speed at which the vehicles were traveling.
State authorities continued to investigate the crash, including whether the 51-year-old man was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the wreck. No test results were available.
The Post’s attempts to locate family members for Johnson were unsuccessful. Online records indicate she previously had addresses in Boynton Beach, Daytona Beach and Fayetteville, N.C., before moving to Pahokee.
