A man and his granddaughter were taken to the hospital after getting struck by a car in Martin County, witnesses and Florida Highway Patrol sources said.
The accident happened at NE Savannah Road in Jensen Beach and the two victims were taken to Delray Medical Center, police officials said.
“The man was crossing the street with the baby and reached down to grab a water bottle and was hit by the car,” a law enforcement source said. “The baby had a gash to the head.”
One witness said he saw a female driver in a white car hit the man and his granddaughter, who was in a stroller.
“I saw the man was passing by and making a right at the corner,” said a 27-year-old man. “One man was passing by with the stroller and got hit.”
He added that he saw Florida Highway Patrol officials and medics trying to attend to the victims.
The main cause of the crash is still under investigation according to the Florida Highway Patrol Department, and anyone with additional information concerning the crash is encouraged to contact the department as soon as possible.
