Five residents from Lantana were injured in a southbound crash on Florida’s Turnpike in St. Lucie County after a vehicle hit them from behind, the Florida Highway Patrol and the St. Lucie County police authorities said.
The Florida Highway Patrol said, the two-vehicle wreck occurred near mile marker 170. A 2018 Honda Civic, driven by a 47-year-old man from Davenport, was traveling southbound on the Turnpike.
A 2008 Jeep, driven by Simeon Paul, 36, of Lantana, was also traveling southbound on the Turnpike in front of the Honda. For reasons still under investigation, the Florida Highway Patrol officials said the Honda’s front collided with the rear end of Jeep.
This caused the Jeep to crash into a canal, critically injuring both Simeon and his passenger, a 38-year-old mother of two.
The 47-year-old Davenport man also suffered critical injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, as both the Florida Highway Patrol officials and the St. Lucie County police authorities try to find out if either drugs or alcohol had a part to play in the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol report states that charges are pending in the case. Anyone with relevant information relating to the crash is asked to call the Florida Highway Patrol.
