Mary Jane Steve was riding her bicycle just a mile or so from her Pembroke Pines home when she was struck by a car and was left critically injured.
The collision between the 15-year-old girl and a Mercedes Benz C230 sedan happened on Davie Street. The teen was riding her bicycle on the sidewalk along Davie Street when she rode north into the intersection at Northwest 125th Avenue.
Police and the Florida Highway Patrol say the bicycle was hit after it crossed into the path of the Mercedes as the sedan traveled west on Davie Street. The 32-year-old of Pembroke Pines stayed at the crash and has cooperated with investigators, Pembroke Pines Police said.
Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue took Mary Jane to Memorial Regional Hospital where she was listed in critical condition. Florida Highway Patrol officials say she was a high school student.
Mary Jane and the 32-year-old driver both have addresses in the nearby Pembroke Falls gated community, which is south of Sheridan Street and west of C.B. Smith Park and North Flamingo Road.
