Man High On Drugs Caused Crash That Injured Four Sheriffs
A 28-year-old man high crashed his car into a building at the Indian River County Jail, injuring 4 sheriffs and also injuring 4 others, according to the sheriff’s office.
Glass shattered when a 28-year-old from Delray Beach rammed his Toyota into the front doors of Building C overnight, the sheriff’s office said.
According to police investigators, the 28-year-old then smashed into a fence outside of building E, climbed the fence and got stuck in the razor wire.
They say as he was removed for the treatment he spat on a deputy.
Deputies say he later admitted that he was high on drugs and just wanted to visit friends who were in the jail.
“This is what drugs do to you. Drug is poisoning our youth. Police say the four Sheriffs who were critically injured in the crash were not yet identified and the names of the other injured victims haven’t been released yet.
The 28-year-old driver faces several charges including, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, three counts of felony criminal mischief, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage and driving under the influence.
