A man shopping at a Martin County cellphone store was critically injured when a Toyota Rav 4 came crashing through the front door, Florida Highway authorities said.
Other customers scrambled to lift the vehicle off of the 36-year-old victim, to no avail.
He was seated on a bench near the front of a store on Hobe Sound in Martin County as he was waiting to be helped by store staff when the Toyota Rav 4 suddenly barreled through the glass exterior, police officials said.
The Rav 4 struck him from behind and rolled over the man, trapping him under the rear wheels.
Customers and other were stunned as bystanders rushed to the badly injured man’s aid and worked together to lift the car’s rear bumper and pull his body from beneath the tires, a Martin County Police spokeswoman said.
He was transported to a hospital in Martin County and pronounced dead hours later, police said.
A Martin County Police said, the 35-year-old driver reported that she was pulling into the store parking lot when she was suddenly unable to stop, according to The Post.
Police said, the driver was tested for driving while intoxicated but results came back negative and added that the driver was unlikely to face any charges.
