A 42-year-old West Boca man was critically injured in a car crash on Southwest 3rd Street near the intersection with Lyons Road, the Palm Beach Police Department and the Florida Highway Patrol officials said.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said, the incident had occurred at Southeast 3rd Street when the driver, a 42-year-old man, crashed a 2002 Ford F-250 into a 2014 Mitsubishi.
The driver was traveling east on Southwest 3rd Street in the right turn lane approaching the intersection, when he veered into the wrong side of the road and collided with the Mitsubishi, driven by a 22-year-old Deborah Thomas of Indian River County.
A witness and a Florida Highway Patrol spokesman said, the truck appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed and had at least one flat tire, possibly two.
The truck entered the intersection and the driver lost control, collided into a traffic signal pole and then into the Mitsubishi.
Palm Beach Sheriff’s office said, the truck came to rest between at the southbound lanes of Interstate 95.
The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office responded and pronounced the driver dead at the scene. His next of kin has been notified.
Deborah Thomas was reported to be in a very critical condition and had been taken to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment.
Florida Highway Patrol officials said, it is believed that either drugs or alcohol must have had a part to play in the crash and urges those with relevant information relating to the crash to contact the Florida Highway Patrol.
