West Palm Beach Woman Still In Critical Condition After Car Crash Incident
A 52-year-old West Palm Beach woman remained in critical condition after she was injured in a multi-car crash that shut down a stretch of Interstate 95 in the Boynton Beach area for many hours, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Helen Jacob was injured when her 2007 Scion was involved in one of two crashes that had occurred along the same stretch of northbound I-95 in southern Palm Beach County.
The crashes, which involved five vehicles, happened south of the Bridge Road exit, near the truck weigh station in Boynton Beach.
According to an FHP report, a 62-year old, of Port Salerno, was driving south on I-95 when, for reasons undetermined, he lost control of his 2003 Toyota Tundra pickup, went across the grass median and into the northbound lanes. A 31-year old, of Palm Beach Gardens, was driving north and tried to avoid the Toyota, but crashed into Helen’s car, the report said.
Helen was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach.
The 62-year old and his 53-year old passenger, of Broward County, were taken to Boca Raton Medical Center in Palm Beach County and St. Mary’s, respectively, both with minor injuries. The 31-year old and two of his passengers were also critically injured, and were also taken to the hospital.
Investigators are trying to determine whether alcohol was a factor in the crash. According to reports made by the Florida Highway Patrol no charges had been filed.
