An out-of-control driver jumped the curb and slammed into an SUV in Broward County, critically injuring his passenger and the driver of the SUV and also severely injuring himself, police said.
The 46-year old driver, of the 2004 Nissan Altima was traveling northbound on I95 near NW 3rd Street exit when the car jumped the curb and plowed into the hydrant, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.
Emergency responders found the driver, and his passenger, a 31-year-old inside the mangled vehicle with severe body trauma, police said.
The driver was rushed to Delray Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. The driver of the SUV who FHP left unidentified is also currently in a hospital in Delray Beach.
Paramedics rushed the 46-year old man’s passenger to a hospital in Broward County.
Cops arrested the driver on charges of vehicular manslaughter for the collision. Police sources said that speeding was a factor in the deadly crash, which totaled the vehicle.
Fire officials said four other people were hospitalized in stable condition as a result of the crash.
The crash shut down a stretch of Sixth Avenue while the FHP Investigation Squad conducted an investigation.
