A 65-year-old woman is critical after her Ford Focus crashed with a pickup at Belvedere Road and Military Trail, Palm Beach County sheriff’s authorities said.
Loretta Frank was about a block east of her home in Haverhill when her 2009 Focus collided with a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 heading south on Military Trail, records state.
Loretta Focus stopped in the bushes on the northeast side of the BP gas station just south of Belvedere Road in suburban West Palm Beach. Records indicate she was not wearing a seat belt.
The pickup, driven by a 37-year-old man of Royal Palm Beach, flipped on its side south of the intersection and crashed into a wooden Florida Power & Light pole.
Sheriff’s authorities said the pickup driver sustained only minor injuries in the crash. He was wearing a seat belt, records state.
Authorities are investigating whether the pickup or the Focus ran a red light. A witness who asked not to be named told The Post that it appeared the southbound pickup had a green light.
Sheriff’s investigators are testing the pickup driver’s blood to see whether he was under the influence of either drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
The intersection was closed for hours while crew cleaned up the debris that littered the roadway.
Attorney Jason Weisser of Shuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash. “Be especially careful when entering an intersection with many local business present. If you were involved in accident due to someone else being distracted, call me for a free consultation so we can discuss your rights and what compensation you may be entitled to.”
