A 36-year old Florida man has just been convicted in a drunken-driving crash that left a 27-year old motor scooter passenger dead.
The Martin County Police Department reports that a 36-year-old man was found guilty of the DUI manslaughter and other related charges.
Authorities and the Florida Highway Patrol officials say the 36-year old man was driving his pickup truck on a Port Salerno, Martin County road when he had struck another scooter ridden by a 27-year-old West Palm Beach County man and a 31-year-old Delray Beach man.
The truck and scooter caught fire, and then the 36-year old driver tried fleeing the scene of the crash, before being caught by police officials, Florida Highway Patrol and police authorities reported.
The crash left the 27-year old man dead and the 31-year old seriously injured.
Police authorities and the Florida Highway Patrol officials say they found the 36-year old Florida driver behind a drug store trying to flee from the crash scene.
Records and investigations had later shown that he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.358 percent. Florida law considers a driver impaired at 0.08 percent.
Anyone with additional information regarding the car crash should ensure to keep the police and the Florida Highway Patrol officials informed.
Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash. “Cases involving accidents with trucks are always subject to heightened scrutiny because of the additional regulations placed on drivers of those vehicles. Unfortunately, in our practice, we have seen numerous instances where drivers blatantly violate these regulations, which results in catastrophic consequences.”
