Martin County Deputy Injured After being Involved In Secondary Car Crash Incident
Martin County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Shawn Green is in critical condition after helping a crash victim just a terrific car crash in the county.
The off-duty deputy stopped to assist a motorist involved in a rollover crash on State Road 714 and called dispatch.
“There is no off the clock with law enforcement if we see something we have a moral obligation to act and that is exactly what Shawn Green did,” says a 32-year old officer with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
A second crash occurred as a result of the first one, severely injuring Green. First responders from MCSO found Green laying on the roadway. He was then airlifted to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center.
“What it looks like to us is when the second vehicle hit the one that was overturned it spun the overturned vehicle and hit our deputy, knocked him about 20 yards,” says the 32-year old Martin County Sheriff.
Green has been with MCSO for 20 years.
The driver involved in the second crash was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crashes. Anyone with relevant information concerning what may have triggered the car crash is asked to contact the Martin County Sheriff Office.
