A taxi jumped the curb at a busy Port Salerno bus stop critically injuring an 11-year-old boy and a 26-year-old woman, law enforcement agents and witnesses said.
The driver of the yellow cab lost control on SE Salerno Street near Federal Highway in Martin County and drove into a small crowd.
“A mother and her son were waiting at the bus stop when a vehicle veered off the road and ran into them. The little boy went sliding on the sidewalk from the impact,” said a witness.
An eye witness tried to give the boy CPR. When an ambulance arrived, EMTs tried to revive the child but he was unable.
Both the boy and his mom, who were fatally injured, were transported to a local hospital nearby. Another man was critically injured. Two others suffered minor injuries.
Authorities withheld the names of the victims pending family notification. Anyone with additional information concerning the accident is asked to contact the FHP department.
Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash. “Whenever you are behind the wheel of a car, please make sure you are paying attention to all road signs and signals. If you are in an accident where someone didn’t follow the posted signs or signals, please call me so that we can discuss your rights.”
