One of South Florida’s most congested roads came to a halt when up to 10 vehicles, including a bus and an 18-wheeler, were involved in a crash at the intersection of Okeechobee Rd and Matthews Rd.
A bus, 18-wheel truck, and seven other vehicles were involved in a crash that happened at the intersection in St. Lucie County.
Okeechobee Rd is heavily traveled to Fort Pierce or those going toward White city, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.
Traffic on Okeechobee Rd and at Matthews Rd is at a near stand-still as rescue crews tend to people who may have been injured and try to clear the vehicles from the road.
Drivers near the crash scene are being diverted to two left express lanes until reconnecting with Okeechobee and Matthews Rds beyond where the incident happened.
Anyone with additional information concerning the accident is asked to contact the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.
Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash. “Whenever you are behind the wheel of a car, please make sure you are not being distracted by texting, talking on your phone or communicating with your passengers. If you are in an accident where someone didn’t follow the posted signs or signals, please call me so that we can discuss your rights.”
