Man Dies After Crashing Car Into Pond In Stuart
STUART, Fl. — A 26-year-old man from Stuart has died after crashing his car into a community pond, the Martin County Sherrif’s Office said.
The car had two people inside, the driver and a passenger.
A deputy saw the vehicle drive past him at a high rate of speed leading the deputy to pursue.
The driver didn’t stop and eventually turned into the Coral Gardens residential community. The vehicle drove through a cul-de-sac and into a pond, deputies said.
The driver died in the vehicle. The passenger in the car was able to free himself and escape. The passenger told deputies they were driving home after getting pizza.
The passenger said he was concerned with the rate of speed they were traveling at and urged his friend to slow down.
It cannot be confirmed if the passenger was injured in the crash.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office along with the State Attorney’s Office is investigating if alcohol, drugs, or speed was the cause of the crash.
Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash. “Driving the speed limit on Florida’s Highways isn’t just the law. It may save your life by keeping you from being in an accident. Unfortunately, in our practice, we have seen numerous instances where drivers blatantly violate these regulations, which results in catastrophic consequences.”
