Pedestrian Killed In Pompano Beach Crash
POMPANO BEACH — A pedestrian has died after he was hit by a vehicle while crossing the highway in Pompano Beach, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said.
Firefighters found a man of Stuart dead on the roadway near the intersection of N Dixie Hwy near Copans Road.
An SUV had struck the man, said a spokesman for Broward County Fire Rescue.
According to the crash report, the vehicle struck the man as he tried to cross N Dixie Hwy. He was not in a crosswalk when he was hit.
The report said the driver of the SUV, identified as a man of suburban Palm Beach Gardens, attempted to avoid hitting the pedestrian but struck him before climbing the center median and crossing all northbound lanes.
The report does not state the speed at which his vehicle was traveling at the time of the crash. It also does not say that the driver is facing any charges or whether authorities issued him any citations at the scene.
Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash. “Driving the speed limit on Florida’s Highways isn’t just the law. It may save your life by keeping you from being in an accident. Unfortunately, in our practice, we have seen numerous instances where drivers blatantly violate these regulations, which results in catastrophic consequences.”
