Man, 38, Seriously Injured After Pickup Crash In Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Firefighters cut a man free from a pickup after he crashed into trees off of U.S. 1 in Wabasso, officials said.

The 38-year-old Sebastian man was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute with severe injuries said Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief, Lonn Benham.

A Florida Highway Patrol official said the man was traveling south on U.S. 1 just south of County Road 510, or 85th Street, in a black 2016 GMC pickup when he veered off the road toward the tree line.

The truck was the only vehicle involved in the incident, and FHP Lt. Yanko Reyes said the driver likely had a medical condition that led to the crash.

State troopers reported the incident and arrived at the crash some minutes later, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
