Man Killed In Fort Pierce Crash

FORT PIERCE, Fla. — A 63-year-old man was killed after getting hit by a car, Fort Pierce police said.

The crash happened on U.S.1 South between Lakefront Boulevard and Sandhill Boulevard.

A man from Miami was crossing the highway from east to west when he was hit by a 2006 Ford F-150 pickup heading south, according to police. The driver of the pickup, a 26-year-old man of Port St. Lucie, stopped after the crash and stayed at the scene along with his 21-year-old passenger.

He died at the scene, police said. The two men in the pickup were not injured.

Traffic homicide investigators spoke to the driver, his passenger, and several witnesses. They determined it was dark, rainy and he was not walking in the crosswalk at the time.

U.S. Highway 1 was completely shut down for hours.

No charges have been filed, but the investigation is still ongoing.

Comments:

Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash.  “Whenever you are behind the wheel of a car, please make sure you are not being distracted by texting, talking on your phone or communicating with your passengers.  If you are in an accident where someone didn’t follow the posted signs or signals, please call me so that we can discuss your rights.”
