Teen Driver In Fatal Palm Springs Hit-and-Run crash Arrested In Texas
PALM SPRINGS — An 18-year old has been arrested in connection to a hit-and-run crash that left a 28-year-old woman dead and two others, including a baby, injured.
According to investigators, the teen who was involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Palm Springs was arrested in Texas, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The 18-year old was arrested in Weslaco, Texas, about 150 miles south of Corpus Christi. He is being held on a warrant for leaving the scene of a crash involving death, leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, and driving without a driver’s license causing death.
Prior to the crash, the teenage driver was headed eastbound on Canal Road just west of Congress Avenue and north of Lake Worth Road in a 2001 Ford Explorer. He reportedly approached a stop sign at Davis Road where the second vehicle was stopped.
He did not stop and crashed into the back of the other vehicle causing both cars to go through the intersection. According to investigators, his car came to a stop against a fence and the other vehicle hit the fence and continued on to a grassy field nearby.
The 28-year-old passenger of the vehicle that was stopped died from her injuries. The 25-year-old driver and a 3-month-old baby boy also were injured in the crash.
Investigators did not disclose the names either of the child or the two adults.
Authorities said the driver fled the scene leaving his car behind and was not located until months later.
Authorities said he remains in the Hidalgo County Jail in Edinburg, Texas, awaiting extradition to Palm Beach County.
Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash. “A Hit-and-run is one of the worst type of accidents. When that person that fled the scene is caught you have rights that are different then in a regular car crash. Make sure you speak to a licensed professional about your rights”.
