Driver Hits Pedestrian Near S Swinton Ave

A man trying to cross the road was hit and killed by a car, troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The man’s name has not been released. He was taken to a hospital after he was struck but did not survive his injuries. The crash happened at S Swinton Ave in Delray Beach, Palm Beach County.

The driver who hit the man wasn’t hurt. She was traveling south at the time, troopers said.

The woman had been traveling south while the man walking was driving west on SW 4th st. Somehow, the man’s car became disabled, so he got out of the vehicle and tried to walk from the north to the south side of the street, troopers said.

The driver was unable to avoid the man as he walked in front of her car, troopers said.

Swinton Ave is partially blocked due to the severity of the crash, causing traffic delays. Vehicles on this route are pulling to the roadside to allow crews to work.  It is best to make use of alternative routes.

The crash remains under investigation.

Comments:

Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash.  “Whenever you are behind the wheel of a car, please make sure you are paying attention to all road signs and signals.  If you are in an accident where someone didn’t follow the posted signs or signals, please call me so that we can discuss your rights.”
