One Woman Dead, Several Injured After Turnpike Crash In St. Lucie County, FHP Says
ST LUCIE COUNTY — A 63-year-old Greenacres woman was killed and three others were seriously injured in an eight-vehicle crash on the southbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike.
The crash occurred just before 7 p.m. near mile marker 173 and involved five cars, two tractor-trailers and one pickup truck, according to Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Yanko Reyes.
Both southbound lanes were stopped from an unrelated crash when a 37-year-old Orlando man driving a tractor-trailer crashed into a halted pickup truck, according to FHP. The collision sparked a chain reaction with the six other vehicles.
The Greenacres woman was one of two passengers in the stopped pickup truck, along with a 17-year-old boy from Palm Beach Gardens, Reyes said. The truck’s driver was a 75-year-old man, also from Greenacres.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the two males were seriously injured, according to FHP.
A 54-year-old Tamarac woman driving a separate SUV was also seriously injured, Reyes said. Three other people in separate halted cars sustained minor injuries in the chain reaction.
Investigators still are determining the precise movements of every vehicle involved in the crash and the incident is still under investigation, Reyes said.
Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded to distracted driving. “In my many years as a Personal Injury Lawyer I’ve helped many victims that were injured because someone was distracted and crashed into their vehicles.
