Police ID Pedestrian Killed In West Palm Beach Traffic Crash
WEST PALM BEACH — A 48-year-old pedestrian died in a traffic crash along Okeechobee Boulevard, West Palm Beach police said.
He died when the trailer on a landscaping truck hit him west of the intersection of Okeechobee and Spencer Drive, just east of Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard.
The crash occurred as he was crossing Okeechobee from north to south, West Palm Beach Police said. He made it past two lanes before the trailer struck him. The landscaping truck was traveling west on Okeechobee. Traffic signals were green for eastbound and westbound traffic, police said.
Authorities identified the truck’s driver as a 31-year-old man also of West Palm Beach.
Investigators were trying to determine whether the victim was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. They said they have determined neither substance was a factor with the driver.
No charges had been filed as of the time of filing this report.
Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash. “Cases involving accidents with trucks are always subject to heightened scrutiny because of the additional regulations placed on drivers of those vehicles. Unfortunately, in our practice, we have seen numerous instances where drivers blatantly violate these regulations, which results in catastrophic consequences.”
