PBSO: Driver, 54, Dies After Truck Crashes, Catches Fire

MANALAPAN — A 54-year-old Broward County man died when his truck crashed and caught fire on State Road A1A in Manalapan, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities declared the man, who’s said to be from Margate, dead at the scene near the 3000 block of Ocean Boulevard.  He lost control of his 2008 Hino box truck “for unknown reasons,” PBSO said. It veered left from the northbound lanes and struck “multiple trees, a power utility box, and a gas line” after it drove onto the west shoulder of the beach road.

The driver’s side of the truck then caught fire. He was trapped in the vehicle and died when he could not escape, PBSO said.

The impact of the crash threw his passenger, a 52-year-old of Hialeah, through the truck’s windshield. Palm Beach Fire Rescue took him to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach with minor injuries.
