Tractor-Trailer Crash Shuts Down I-95 Exit Ramp
An overturned tractor-trailer is causing heavy delays on I-95 and 45th street.
According to the Florida Department of Transportation, the crash involving a tractor-trailer and a car is on the I-95 N ramp at exit 74 for 45th street in West Palm Beach.
A man and his step-son were both seriously injured in the accident, firefighters and FHP said.
Firefighters and FHP officials said they arrived to find a tractor trailer that had overturned after colliding with a Honda trapping the driver of the Honda. He was identified in the accident report as a 38-year-old man of Broward. The report states the vehicle overturned “several times.”
Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters immediately began using the Jaws of Life to extricate the victims.
The doors and roof were removed allowing FHP officials to safely remove the victims, according to emergency responders called to the scene.
The driver of the tractor-trailer and two passengers received life-threatening injuries in the crash. No charges have been filed yet as the crash is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol Department.
The on ramp is currently closed off to traffic.
Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash. “Cases involving accidents with tractor trailers are always subject to heightened scrutiny because of the additional regulations placed on drivers of those vehicles. Unfortunately, in our practice, we have seen numerous instances where drivers blatantly violate these regulations, which results in catastrophic consequences.”
