Pedestrian Struck Near S Swinton Ave

A person was hit and killed by a car while trying to cross the road, troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The victim’s name has not been released. She was taken to a hospital after she was struck but did not survive her injuries. The crash happened at S Swinton Ave in Delray Beach, Palm Beach County.

The driver who hit her was traveling south at the time, troopers said. He was not hurt in the crash.

The driver had been traveling south while the woman was walking close to the curb shortly before the incident.

First emergency responders arrived at the site of the crash soon after the accident happened and the victim was transported to Boca Raton Regional Hospital for treatment.

Swinton Ave is partially blocked due to the severity of the crash causing traffic delays. Vehicles on this route are pulling to the roadside to allow crews work.

The crash remains under investigation.
