Pickup Slams Into Indian River County Home; Two Hospitalized, One In Critical Condition
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY—A pickup truck hauling a trailer and lawnmowers crashed into the bedroom of a home and hit a man and woman in their bed at midnight, a family member said.
A woman, 39, said she and her husband, 47, were asleep in the home in the 200 block of 27th Avenue Southwest when the black Ford F-250 slammed through the cinder block wall and into a front bedroom.
She said she heard tires screech and the impact but didn’t realize the truck was inside the house.
“My husband grabbed me, and he took me and covered me,” she said.
Two of their extended family members in the front facing bedroom of the home and were hit by the pickup, she said.
According to the woman, Indian River Fire Rescue took a relative, 62, and another, 45, by helicopter to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the older relative was in critical condition as at the time of this report.
Around 2 a.m., Indian River County Sheriff’s Office deputies had one person in the back of a patrol car, and state troopers were examining the vehicles and the home and marking areas of interest with orange spray paint.
At the time, a state trooper said two vehicles were involved in a crash on 27th Avenue Southwest, a silver sedan and the truck, but didn’t mention the home or its occupants.
He said two people had been taken to hospitals.
A Kia Optima with damage to its driver-side and front right tire was stopped on the east side of 27th Avenue Southwest a few yards north of the home and the pickup.
The crash shut down 27th Avenue Southwest from the home to just south of 1st Street Southwest.
Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash. “Be especially careful when entering an intersection with many local business present. If you were involved in an accident due to someone else being distracted, call me for a free consultation so we can discuss your rights and what compensation you may be entitled to.”
