Bicycle Crash Kills Man, 56, Near Lantana

LANTANA — A 56-year-old man has died after a car struck him as he rode a bicycle late at night through a neighborhood west of Lantana.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said paramedics took him to Delray Medical Center following the crash in the Lantana Homes neighborhood northeast of the intersection of Military Trail and Jog Road.

A 2017 Nissan Rogue headed southbound on Edgecliff “failed to observe”, PBSO’s report said.

The SUV and the bicycle crashed, and the impact pinned him to the bicycle and under the Nissan, which dragged him until he and the bicycle broke free near Ithaca Circle West. Doctors pronounced him dead less than an hour after the wreck.

The driver, a 17-year-old male who lives nearby, turned the SUV around and returned to the crash site. PBSO’s report does not indicate that the 17-year-old is facing criminal charges.

Comments:
