INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A bicyclist was killed in a collision north of the Windsor Club in Indian River County, police said.

The crash occurred on State Road A1A north of Wildlife Way near Treasure Shores Park, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers identified the bicyclist as a 63-year-old Vero Beach man.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a red Nissan Altima collided with the bicyclist. The motorist was a 49-year-old Melbourne man who had been traveling north when he swerved onto the right shoulder and struck the bicyclist, who was also headed north.

The Vero Beach man was taken by paramedics to Sebastian River Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, troopers said.

The subsequent police investigation reduced traffic to one lane for several hours.
