Man, 39, Facing Vehicular Homicide Charge In Fatal Crash Near PBIA

WEST PALM BEACH – A 39-year-old Belle Glade man is facing DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide charges following a fatal crash in suburban West Palm Beach, according to Palm Beach County court records.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said it arrested the suspect on the charges following a wreck on Congress Avenue near Gun Club Road, just south of Palm Beach International Airport.

He was booked into the county jail and remained there at the time of this report, with his bail set at $103,000.

A man, 37, of suburban West Palm Beach was a passenger in the vehicle and died in the one-car wreck in which PBSO said the car spun out at a high speed and crashed into a tree. Paramedics declared the passenger dead at the scene.

The crash report said the suspect was southbound on Congress in a 2010 Nissan Maxima and was trying to turn left at the Gun Club Road intersection when the crash happened. It said he lost control of the vehicle and that it spun onto the roadway’s median where the passenger door struck the tree.

The force of the crash led the Nissan to rotate around the tree before coming to a stop, according to the report. It did not estimate how fast the vehicle was traveling at the time of impact.

The Palm Beach County Public Defender’s Office is representing the suspect. It does not comment on open cases.

Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded to distracted driving.  “In my many years as a Personal Injury Lawyer I’ve helped many victims that were injured because someone was distracted and crashed into their vehicles.  If you’ve been injured by someone because they weren’t paying attention to the road, please call me so I can help you get compensation for your damages.”
