Woman Killed In Fatal Crash Near Delray Beach
WEST PALM BEACH — A 66-year-old woman has been killed in a fatal crash in suburban Delray Beach, according to Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office.
Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office investigators say the driver was driving westbound on Atlantic Avenue when he crashed into the victim’s vehicle at top speed.
Investigators say the woman was on eastbound Atlantic Avenue when she turned north onto El Clair Ranch Road, just east of Jog Road.
Investigators say he was speeding when he crashed his 2014 Kia Optima into the passenger side of the woman’s 2018 Honda SUV.
Data from his vehicle indicated his car was traveling at 84 mph when his airbag deployed, according to the sheriff’s office report. The speed limit on Atlantic Avenue is 45 mph.
The 66-year-old woman was taken to a hospital, where she died several hours later.
The driver, who lived just west of the Kings Point neighborhood south of the crash site, was arrested shortly after the crash, records show.
