Car Crash In St. Lucie County Left Two Injured
A St. Lucie County man miraculously survived crashing his Toyota Corolla into a tractor-trailer in White City.
The man was pulled from the wreckage with a broken hip and other non-life threatening injuries, a spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The 49-year-old man was headed toward White City in St. Lucie County, when he totaled his convertible wedging it under the semi-truck, Florida Highway Patrol sources said.
The truck driver dragged the car several hundred feet before he was able to stop, police sources and the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Emergency workers rushed to the crash and had to cut open the car to get the 49-year-old out.
He wreaked of alcohol and had an open bottle of vodka on the passenger seat, sources said.
Both the truck driver, who also suffered minor injuries, and the Toyota driver was taken to a hospital in St. Lucie County where they were being treated, Florida Highway Patrol authorities said.
The Toyota driver was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and being in possession of an open alcohol container, police said.
