Car Crashes Into A Home Near Port St. Lucie

ST. LUCIE COUNTY — A man accused of crashing a car into a home was arrested after St. Lucie County Sheriff’s investigators reported tracking him down, an affidavit released stated.

The driver, 18, of the 6000 block of South U.S. 1 in Fort Pierce, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of leaving the scene of a traffic crash involving property damage, records stated.

According to the St. Lucie County Fire District, the incident happened along NE Caprona Avenue near Prima Vista Boulevard.

Deputies went to Northeast Caprona Avenue and Prima Vista Boulevard after they were called to the scene of the crash. A Honda Accord reportedly traveled west on Prima Vista Boulevard before leaving the roadway and crashing into a home.

Investigators said the driver exited the vehicle and took off his shirt. He fled to a home later determined to belong to his girlfriend before a friend picked him up, an affidavit stated.

According to the St. Lucie County Fire District, no one was injured.

Deputies eventually met with the driver identified as the owner of the vehicle.

The driver said he got into an argument with a person “who he claims shorted him” in a marijuana exchange. The man started to chase him, he reported.

Some subsequent portions of the affidavit are redacted.

He has been released from the St. Lucie County jail on $750 bond at the time of this report, according to the sheriff’s office.

Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash.  “Whenever you are behind the wheel of a car, please make sure you are paying attention to all road signs and signals.  If you are in an accident where someone didn’t follow the posted signs or signals, please call me so that we can discuss your rights.”
